Zeen Review: Feminista #2

FEMINISTA #2 by Various

This is a collective effort, seemingly authored by one sharehouse & their associates. Most of the material is reviews of live gigs, photos of the same & interviews with bands. There's a pictorial on the Adelaide Shutzenfest (A German shooting/archery contest, usually accompanied with loads of beer & music), reviews of countries from their German travellin' pal, Berliner Bun & one group effort 2 Minute Noodle review. For a zeen called Feminista forgive me but I was expecting something a little more female focussed. Something addressing a feminist identity, issues and or politics, with the exception of Lena Ribena's whinge about Valentine's Day, there wasn't much like this. I wanted to compare it to Turtelly, the post millenial riot grrl lifestyle zeen from Sydney, but I can't so all I can do is name drop it instead. Feminista, as far as A-Town zeens go, is more like Concrete Jungle, the punk rock fanzine. & As far as the 2 Minute Noodle review goes, I think that'd been done way back in Melbourne indie magazine Drivel more than 10 years ago, although this fresh one by people probably too young to know about Drivel, was enjoyable nonetheless. & The Shutzenfest pictorial was good too, like something outta Vice but way more local. Defintely worth looking out for would be the Vegan Ambrosia cook zeen mentioned in here, by one of Feminista's main contributors Stars Attack & a pal of mine, Pixie Stardust. As for Feminista I anna keep reading, I'll look out for past or future issues, but if it's more of the same then I'd have to give up. A5 Portrait Format, B & W Guts with pink paper Skin, bound by rubber band! & Feminista has a MySpace you can check out too!
